Mullvad

Mullvad is a VPN service built around minimal data collection: accounts are identified by a randomly generated number instead of email, and payment can be made in cash or cryptocurrency. It is operated by Mullvad VPN AB, registered and headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The company is privately owned by its two founders and has not taken outside venture investment, which it cites as allowing it to prioritize privacy commitments over growth metrics. Its client apps and daemon are open source and have been through multiple independent security audits.

Mullvad also co-develops Mullvad Browser with the Tor Project, a hardened browser sold as a complement to its VPN encryption.
