Penpot is an open-source design and prototyping platform developed by Kaleidos, a technology company headquartered in Madrid, Spain. Kaleidos pivoted from a design/development consultancy into a product company specifically to build Penpot as an open-source alternative to proprietary, US-based design tools.

The tool runs entirely in the browser, stores designs as standard SVG, and is built to let designers and developers work from the same file — designers edit visually while developers can inspect generated code directly.
